A 1% dilution is often an appropriate starting point for children ages 2 and up, older adults, those with sensitive skin, and during pregnancy. Extra care is advised during pregnancy, and essential oils are commonly avoided during the first trimester.
Essential oils are very concentrated substances and should be used thoughtfully and with safety precautions in mind. Using essential oils neat (undiluted) or at levels above recommended dilution rates can significantly increase the risk of skin irritation and sensitization.
