Our Convictions
Welcome. I am Megan Tiehes, a Certified Professional Aromatherapist and the founder of The Pondered Path Aromatherapy.
When I first began looking into essential oils, two Bible verses stood out to me and supplied both the name and the defining ideal of The Pondered Path Aromatherapy:
Proverbs 4:26-27
"Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil."
These verses tell us of the importance of walking through life with intention and purpose. We are not just to go through the motions and accept all that comes along. We are to ponder things through the lens of the teachings of the Word of God and to let all our ways be established. We have the loving gift of free will that allows us to turn to the right hand or to the left if we want to choose not to walk in the ways of the Lord. We must choose to remove our feet from evil as the Bible instructs us. It does not happen on a whim, but through purposeful and intentional living for the Lord.
Through personal experience, research, interactions with others, and prayer, I have become aware of the following:
- The Aromatherapy industry is steeped in New Age and mystical religious practices and ideals.
- Truly helpful educational resources that equip customers so that they can use essential oils confidently, with competence, are remarkably lacking.
- Customers with religious convictions regarding unbiblical associations within the industry are left abstaining from essential oils or feeling that they have no choice but to purchase from companies they might not have otherwise.
- Many essential oil companies have used exaggerated claims about products
While keeping all this in mind, I completed my Professional Aromatherapist Certification and established these five guiding principles for The Pondered Path Aromatherapy:
1. The fear of the Lord - Operating from a foundation of reverence and obedience
2. Using God's blessings - Recognizing essential oils natural beauty products as part of the blessings of His creation, designed to support wellness
3. Education - Helping others understand the wise and safe use of essential oils
4. Intentional living - Pondering the path of our feet and encouraging others to do the same
5. Separation - Offering products from a company that has deliberately separated itself from those who promote unbiblical concepts and practices regarding essential oils
My heart-felt religious conviction is for The Pondered Path Aromatherapy to boldly stand apart from the mystical, and ritualistic teachings and practices that are so prevalent in this industry. Instead of feeling stuck, purchasing from companies with behaviors that they do not support, or giving up and walking away from essential oils completely, I want customers know that they have another option. The Pondered Path Aromatherapy can help these customers know that they do not have to settle or do without.
True Healing for the Soul
The Pondered Path Aromatherapy vehemently rejects any claim of spiritual healing or assistance through the use of essential oils. The only healing for a lost and weary soul is found through Jesus Christ. The Bible states that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, that the wages of that sin is death, and that salvation is a free gift of God; not of works, but by faith. It is not enough to have the faith that Jesus exists- the demons too believe this and are not saved. We must acknowledge our sin and need for a savior, and turn to Jesus as the only source of salvation from the consequences of that sin.
Though oils are a beneficial tool for helping to support the body emotionally and physically, they can offer us nothing spiritually. We at The Pondered Path Aromatherapy, hope to encourage others to use these oils as blessings that God has provided, and not as distractions or replacements for the Lord who created them.
Final Thoughts
In Spencer Johnson's book, Who Moved My Cheese?, a character named Haw debates whether to step out into the maze and search for the cheese he so desperately needs. In this moment, Haw asks himself, "What would you do if you weren't afraid?" Though fear can sometimes protect us, it can too often be a welcomed enemy in our lives. We can let fear lead, following along with the crowd, or we can take a bold stand. I was reminded of the Biblical account in Daniel three, where three men were called to the worship ceremony of an idol. These men arrived, they listened respectfully, they acknowledged the presence of the idol, but they refused to bow down and worship it. They had courage, rooted in conviction. Scripture says God has not given His followers a spirit of fear and that perfect love casts out fear.
I founded The Pondered Path Aromatherapy because I chose to pursue what God has laid on my heart: to enter an industry that is well known for its spiritualistic affiliations, and to acknowledge and address the concerns in front of me as a company that will ponder the path of its feet and will stand apart instead of bowing to the pressures of compromise.
